Recently, Anqing Customs issued a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Certificate of Origin for a batch of paper cups exported by Anqing Jinjiuchen Trading Co., Ltd. to Ecuador. This marks the first China–Ecuador FTA Certificate of Origin issued in Anqing.

“Ecuador is an emerging market for our company. With the guidance of Anqing Customs, we successfully applied for the Certificate of Origin under the China–Ecuador Free Trade Agreement, enabling us to enjoy preferential import tariffs,” said Zhu JinHua, customs affairs manager of Anqing Jinjiuchen Trading Co., Ltd.
“The shipment, valued at RMB 75,000, will benefit from approximately RMB 2,250 in tariff savings. Under the agreement, tariffs are reduced progressively over a ten-year period—from 30% to 27% in the first year, and fully eliminated from the tenth year onward. This gives us strong confidence in establishing a solid presence in the Ecuadorian market.”

The China–Ecuador Free Trade Agreement Certificate of Origin officially came into effect on May 1, 2024. The China–Ecuador FTA is China’s 20th free trade agreement, and Ecuador is China’s fourth FTA partner in Latin America, following Chile, Peru, and Costa Rica.

After the agreement takes effect, both countries will eliminate tariffs on 90% of tariff lines, with around 60% removed immediately. Chinese exports such as plastic products, steel products, machinery, electrical equipment, vehicles, and auto parts will gradually enjoy reduced or zero tariffs when entering Ecuador. Conversely, Ecuadorian products including bananas, white shrimp, fish, cocoa, and coffee will progressively enjoy zero tariffs when exported to China.

“Going forward, Anqing Customs will continue to strengthen policy guidance for enterprises, optimize procedures for Certificates of Origin, and fully promote facilitation measures such as self-printing and intelligent review, further unlocking the benefits of free trade agreements,” said Wang Tingting, Deputy Director of Anqing Customs.

According to statistics, from January to June 2024, Anqing Customs issued 2,248 Certificates of Origin, covering export values of RMB 1.39 billion, representing year-on-year increases of 26.29% in certificate volume and 8.52% in total value.
